For the longest time Zimbabwean audiences have been crying out for a platform where they can find the TV classics. Shows such as Mukadota, Paraffin and Mutirowafanza. TV dramas that permanently etched themselves into the hearts of many decades ago.
This need for a place to watch the shows of old is finally being answered by ZBC. Well sort of. The broadcaster recently launched the Z+ streaming app, a home for everything ZBC. Over a decade late but a very welcome initiative.
Available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store it brings together not only live radio and live TV, but video on demand.
So what exactly is available on ZBC’s latest initiative?
The Z+ app has 3 live TV channels available: the ZBC TV channel we all know and love, ZBC NEWS – a 24 hour news channel, and Jive TV – a music channel. In addition to this there are 7 radio stations: Central Radio, Luzibo Radio, Khulumani FM, Classic263, National FM, Power FM and Radio Zimbabwe.
The platform’s content bank has shows such as Mukadota, Paraffin, Melting Pot, Ezomgido, Gringo Ndiyani. Now while the episodes available for these shows are extremely limited, what the Z+ app has going for it right now is variety in genre.
The user interface can certainly do with some improvement but if you have a good internet connection the streaming works fine for both live channels and video on demand.
However late it has come, the Z+ app is a step in the right direction for ZBC and the broadcaster now just needs to build on it.
