BET Award-winning singer-songwriter Sha Sha, real name Charmaine Mapimbiro, made a splash in the mainstream music world in 2019 and has gone on to become one of the top African acts in popular music.

The young beauty from Mutare is among the handful of sought after vocalists in amapiano – a subgenre of house music birthed in the boroughs of Johannesburg and Pretoria and the new pop music in the Southern African country- and it’s no surprise why.

After pursuing music professionally and having her singles hit the airwaves in Zimbabwe, the rising star moved to South Africa. She started doing gigs, grew a fan base but things really changed when she was introduced to the award-winning producer, DJ Maphorisa.

Following their introduction to the DJ, Sha Sha was featured on songs like ‘Nge Thanda Wena’ by the Scorpion Kings and ‘Akulaleki’ by Samthing Soweto, which helped cement her name in the music industry.

On the 1st of November 2019, she dropped her debut EP, Blossom, which produced hits like ‘Tender Love’, ‘Something About You’ and ‘Sing It Back’. Not one to be limited, the body of work is a combination of various sounds from Amapiano, pop and Afrobeat.

It is this ability to sing across musical genres that keeps her in high demand.

At the end of 2020, she released a single titled ‘Woza’ from her upcoming album set for release later this year. The jam is already making waves and continues to ensure that her voice is heard across all radio and dance floors.

A blossoming act with accolades and nods that cuts across continents – BET Awards, SAMAs, MTV MAMAs, AEAUSA, NAMAs and Zimbabwe Achievers awards – her cup definitely runneth over.

This week, Sha Sha was nominated for four categories on the recently announced Star FM Listeners Choice Awards 2021. She is put up for the Best Female Artist, Best House/amapiano, best Zimbabwean in the diaspora and best RnB with her feature with Hillzy. The Star FM Listeners Choice Awards seeks to promote an appreciation of music as a business in Zimbabwe.

Elsewhere, the “Tender Love” maker has a string of big joints coming on the way. She features South African singer, songwriter and record producer Tellaman on his upcoming single “Overdue” which appears on Def Jam Africa’s “Rhythms of Zamunda: Music Inspired By Coming 2 America” album.

As well, she will lend her stellar vocal game on Nigerian AfroBeats record producer and songwriter KillerTunes single alongside Major Lazor’s Walshyfire. The song drops soon.
