The Drunk Text That Got Rachel Chinouriri on an Arena Tour with Lewis Capaldi

Rachel Chinouriri is set to go on an Arena Tour with Grammy nominated Scottish pop sensation Lewis Capaldi. The indie artist announced the news on her social media and she joins two other opening acts for Capaldi. The Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent European Tour will commence on the 13th of February and will run until mid March, across 12 cities.

Chinouriri who is currently based in London, shared a hilarious anecdote on Twitter about how she could’ve ended up as Capaldi’s opening act.

Sometime last year Capaldi followed Chinouriri on Instagram and a short while after that he tagged her in one of his stories. It turned out Chinouriri had been added to Bum Squeal, a Spotify playlist curated by Capaldi. Together with her label, Chinouriri was ecstatic and they nudged her ask him if he would want her to join him on tour but she wasn’t confident enough to go through it.

A while later on a drunken night, Chinouriri sees Capaldi post something about tour. She thinks what’s the harm in asking and she sends him a video and a voice note in the DMs. Once sober the next morning she regrets the decision and finds herself mortified with embarrassment. This all happens in December and when she’s finally getting over the whole thing, her management tells her “Hey Rachel, we may be going on tour with Lewis”.

Although initially elated at the news, she remembers the drunk incident. She finally lets her management know about it after she’s told she’s got the slot on the tour.

Fast forward: my management tell me I got the slot, then my manager calls me. I tell him what I did. He laughs & found it pretty funny actually. I realised I’m an over thinker and now I’m going on an Arena Tour with Lewis Capaldi and I am so happy. Moral of the story: drink less.

Chinouriri now sees the brighter side of it and believes in following her instincts more.

My drunk choices have never been any good for me and I don’t recommend, but if this video did contribute then that one drunk venture was worth it and I need to stop being shy and follow my gut…

Last year Chinouriri released a 4 track EP titled Better Off Without and she’s currently working on an album.
