Harare’s premier Afro house experience, Roots, will be returning for its 9th edition, dubbed Roots IX, this coming Saturday the 5th of September. The event will be once again hosted at Beach House in Borrowdale, a venue that has become home to Afro house.

Roots IX is set to be the event’s most expansive yet and it will feature regional titans in the house music space, sharing the decks with Zimbabwe’s finest.

Jnr SA, the 2x SAMA award winning producer who was recently unveiled as the flagship face and first official signing to Tech Hub—the groundbreaking new Afro tech record label founded by Amapiano pioneer Kabza De Small—will be making his Roots debut. The DJ is currently making waves across the continent with his Dance To My Afro EP.

Joining him will be “Abasazi” hitmaker, the dexterous Tefo Foxx. A DJ renowned for his signature, hard-hitting rhythmic drum patterns, with tracks that are a staple in the sets of international icons like Black Coffee and Shimza.

One of Bulawayo’s favourite sons, Ryan “El Jefe” Synth, a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s electronic music community, will be part of the charge, alongside Roots’ pioneer and a rising global star in his own right, Samuel Cosmic, who recently dropped “Pole Sana” on Nitefreak’s Afroholic Records.

In addition there will be the hypnotic Mimi, renowned for her unknown selections that move a crowd, the vocally gifted MJ Sings, who has become Zimbabwe’s voice of Afro house, Musha stable boss and “Hana” hitmaker TAPIWA and the corporate DJ, Tipdola.

Events like Roots have help foster a vibrant Afro house scene in Harare, and its one that keeps on growing. From quaint venues that had everyone knowing each other, to full fledged showcases that rival festivals, Afro house is carving out its own on Harare’s entertainment scene. Roots IX is set to be an exclamation point on that growth.

Tickets for ROOTS IX are currently on sale via SahwiGate.
