Remember when Yemi wasn’t the Queen of Afrobeats and AfroPop? Neither do I. The Nigerian belle stole our hearts with her 2014 hit “Johnny” and we’ve been dancing to her hits ever since. Her video for the 2017 single “Go Down” just got released on her YouTube Vevo channel and once again, it’s a banger!

Director Paul Gambit delivers stunning visuals with a heavy modern tone that is sleek and fresh. One word describes it all – irresistible. The wardrobe is refreshing as it stays hip, sexy AF yet G-rated. I love her usual ankara designs as I am simply a proud Afrikan but the deviation to more Western clothing did justice to the vibe that the song brings. Whoever her stylist is, that person’s a genius. The neon set brings a vibrant vividness not loud but subtly says, “keep watching me”.

The track itself is nice and easy and I think my Brit friends call this wavy. I definitely see myself and bae chilling somewhere in the great outdoors with a glass of wine watching the sunset with this song playing in the background. That’s just the kinda vibe the song evokes. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s still definitely a dance track and the sassy choreography displays this pretty well. There’s a great balance between it being a club banger and a casual jam. You’ll definitely find yourself doing the gwara gwara while listening to this!

So, grab your dancing shoes (or go barefoot) and test out how groovy this Yemi masterpiece is.
