Despite the Split Rumours, Sauti Sol are Headlining Lake of Stars Malawi this Year

The deservedly titled African super-group will be joining this year’s Lake of Stars Festival as a headlining act

Sauti Sol,  are a multiple award-winning Kenyan Afro-pop four-piece that has attracted huge critical and commercial acclaim across the continent, including being crowned Best African Group at the AFRIMA Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards, Soundcity MTV Awards and the UK’s BEFFTA Awards.

You may be familiar with their flame hot visual singles part of the LP Album ‘Afrikan Sauce’ featuring the likes of Patoran King in ‘Melanin‘ and more recently ‘Short N Sweet‘ with Nyashinski.

Sauti Sol join Malawi’s Lake of Stars Festival’s 2018 Line-up this year amid word that they might be throwing in the Music towel. Early last month in a radio interview, their lead vocalist Bien Aime Baraza said the band would be starting a record label which would be going live this August, shortly after he gutted fans by announcing that the band had “done all that could be done in Music”, and would be calling it quits! As if that wasn’t enough of a bombshell, Bien suggested the super band might be relocating from their home country soon.

Despite this, the deservedly titled African super-group will be joining this year’s Lake of Stars Festival as a headlining act for the 15th-anniversary edition of the event taking place from the 28 to 30 September 2018.

In a statement, Lake of Stars Director Will Jameson admitted he’s been a fan of the band since their City of Stars Event in 2013;

“Like many people, I’m a huge fan of Sauti Sol and I can’t think of a better place to enjoy their music than by the stunning shores of Lake Malawi surrounded by friends. I first had a taste of how good they were live back in 2013 when we brought them over for our City of Stars event but since then the band’s career and fan base has gone through the roof so I feel very privileged that they have agreed to come and help us celebrate 15 years of the Lake of Stars project.”
