#NoFilter is a Zimbabwean talk show, a platform created by African Women to share views and voices by African women. Produced and Directed by sisters Amanda and Carol Marufu the aim is to urge all women to open up and be able to share their experiences.
Speaking to the production team they explained why the show is more relevant than ever,
“we’ve grown up with the tv and the internet being our go to for advice and we don’t really connect anymore because of it and I want us, African girls, to have our own platform to connect, to get advice, to grow, to be able to speak and be the women we are supposed to be and have our own unique voice represented in the media”
#NoFilter is an entirely self-funded project, the team expressed that it’s been a rewarding trip,
“it has bee very tough, a learning curve every step of the way but it has been rewarding…the sisterhood and comradery from the ladies have helped build the shape of the show.”
#NoFilter features an interesting mix of presenters reminiscent of shows like The View or The Talk. Each presenter seems to represent a different generational aspect of the African Women for the viewer. We, the ladies all have the aunt you can tell all your secrets, the mature older sister or the fun trendy younger sister who keeps us ‘up to date’ and explorative. Fulfilling these roles on the show are Chido Musasiwa-Gutu, Patience Musa, Zaza The Zazalicious One Ndlovu, Nyasha Sennie Pondwa and Tatenda Tait Massie Masanga.
In a world where growing up as a woman has tailor-made struggles based on gender, where girls shy away from ambition and are left with the option of finding a good man to marrying them; #NoFilter reads like a great way to inspire young women to unapologetically hope for more. We haven’t caught wind of where the show will be airing regularly but it does launch today at the International Film Festival for Women at B2C from 6 – 9 PM.
