Recently appointed African Sun Limited CEO, Peter Saungweme has pledged to support the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) on the tourism recovery effort.

This comes out from an introductory meeting between ZTA Acting Chief Executive, Givemore Chidzidzi, and Saungweme which was led by outgoing mentor Ed Shangwa.

Saungweme said, ” “I am looking forward to African Sun Limited’s contribution to the African overZTA and growth of the tourism sector.”

“We will work, hand in hand with the ZTA.”

Tourism has been identified as a critical pillar of economic development in the NDS1 and the attainment of vision 2030.

The industry was however not spared by the COVID-19 lockdown which resulted in players temporarily shutting down their businesses.

Lockdowns around the world left thousands of people in the tourism sector without any sources of income.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in 2020, launched a campaign to revive the country’s coronavirus-hit tourism industry.

Chidzidzi thanked the African Sun and Shangwa for supporting ZTA over the years.

“We believe that operators such as the African Sun are critical to achieving Government’s objective of a five billion dollar tourism economy. This is heavily anchored on lucrative and mutually beneficial public-private partnerships,” he said.

Shangwa said, “We’ve received tremendous support from the ZTA and I am confident that this will continue into the future.”
