An Ode to King Lo Who Just Scored A Gig At Africa No Filter Because Today Is a Good Day for Flowers

Today is a good day for flowers, and what could be a better moment to send pink roses, sunflowers and orange roses to Lorraine Charlotte Bgoya popularly known as King Lochnation than when she has just scored a new gig at Africa No Filter?

The former radio personality and hub manager at Moto Republik broke the big announcement on Twitter on Monday afternoon, writing:

“I’m really happy and proud to officially share that as of today I will be working with @africanofilter, where I will be running the Emerging Artists Fellowship Program! @africanofilter works to shift stereotypical narratives about and within Africa, by investing in creative & media storytellers, narrative research and advocacy efforts. In my career so far I’ve had the proud honor of working in the development of artists in my home country and to have the opportunity to carry that experience and contribute to artists across Africa is a dream come true.”

Now, to the both of you who crushes or envy her but would never love to admit it publicly, King Lo has in recent years been helping to grow and develop the Zimbabwean creative economy. The powerhouse creative who strikes a balance between beauty and brains have a lengthy list of accomplishments which include radio DJing, content creation, producing, activism and community management. From her Off The Wall days on ZiFM Stereo (Her voice: it’s like butter, baby; it’s like sugar, y’all. It’s versatile enough to be used in myriad ways.), The Fest Gurus, to managing Moto Republik – first creative hub in Zimbabwe -, Lorraine has done all that with grace and class.

As she takes on her new gig at the good folks at Africa No Filter, we want to congratulate her and say thanks for everything you provided to the cultural and creative industries of Zimbabwe while you felt compelled to bless our culture with your presence. We don’t say this lightly, but the culture is made better by your presence. Continue radiating your passion for the arts and all things Zimbabwean and work towards female empowerment across the continent.

While your profile is only rising, we solemnly believe that you are a global creative waiting to happen. Frankly speaking, you are one of those cultural practitioners who we feel have so much to give the world and one whose name we search every now and then to see if there’s something new in your world. Selfish, we know, you owe us nor anybody anything, but when you love something and appreciate what folks bring to the table you want more of it.

You are appreciated, Lorraine.
