Friday the 10th of March, marked the official opening of Zibusiso Tshuma’s first ever solo exhibition at Alliance Française de Bulawayo. It was not only a first for Zibusiso but a first for the venue itself, as it had only hosted group exhibitions before.

It’s The Little Things That Matter puts on display 15 artworks by Zie, selected from an initial pool of 40. The name of the exhibit is inspired by a high school teacher, who always reminded Zie how important it was to take note of the little things.

The official opening of Zie’s exhibition attracted a crowd almost too large for the venue to handle. In an interview with the Chronicle Zie revealed that he was impressed by the turnout and a lot of people were impressed by his work.

I’m happy about such a huge attendance by the people. What impressed me more is that from the crowd, I only knew about 20 percent of them. People really loved my work. Most of them said they were amazed by the detail, and the way I manipulate shapes, sizes and colours. Most of the work was new to people. I had been working on this body of work for months, kept it private, and unveiled it on the day so it was really a unique experience for most of them.

The exhibition will be running until the 6th of May and some of the artworks are available for purchase.

Zibusiso Tshuma is a visual artist from the town of Gwanda. He was one of the artists who represented Matebeleland South at the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo last year, as part of their annual exhibition and he is currently one of the resident artists at the gallery.
