Mr Eazi recently co-signed Hillzy as the Afrobeats artist reposted a video of him performing his smash hit Nharo at December’s sold out Fiesta Fiesta festival. In the post the caption read, “This made me smile so wideee.” A clearly indication of how impressed he was. This was followed by the Afro Entertainment Instagram channel Chop Daily also taking notice of Hillzy’s performance of Nharo as they reposted his video to their million plus followers.
Although it was a fourth quarter release, Nharo simply erupted in popularity and catapulted Hillzy into the top ten of ZiFM’s top 40 songs of 2022 list. The video for Nharo also earned Hillzy the Video of the Year Award at the 2022 Zimhiphop awards and coming into this year it seems the song has not lost any of it’s momentum. This past weekend Nharo made it into the top 5 of Power FM’s top 40 chart and it looks set to climb to the summit again.
However Nharo isn’t the first time Hillzy has caught the ear of Mr Eazi. The Zimbabwean artist was a beneficiary of his emPawa initiative which saw him share music and video grants with a 100 up & coming African artists. With the artists who made into the top 10 getting to attend a three-week masterclass with Diplo, Mr Eazi and several of the continent’s top artists.
Hillzy didn’t make it into the top 10 that would attend the masterclass but his song “You Are Enough” had such an impact on Mr Eazi that he head-hunted him. Hillzy was personally invited to the masterclass and Mr Eazi offered to fund a music video for the song.
