Fresh from their performance together on the Big Brother Titans stage on Sunday, D’banj and Passion Java were reunited at the Robert Mugabe International Airport. As D’banj flew into the country for what’s set to be a series of collaborations with local artists. D’banj is famously known for his megahit Oliver Twist and he has multiple MTV Awards and a BET Award under his belt. He is also the founder of Mo’ Hits Records alongside producer Don Jazzy.
D’banj stated that there was need for collaboration within the African creative industry and he said that was why he was partnering with Passion Java. The Afrobeats pioneer hinted at his trip here being only the beginning of collaborations between Zimbabwean and Nigerian artists.
The creative industry especially in Africa is growing very fast. West African music, Nigerian music, South African and Zimbabwean music and I think there is a need for us to come together and collaborate and I think that is the partnership between myself and Prophet Passion Java. As you know he has been sponsoring the music industry for years, working with so many other people. He has brought people in to collaborate with Zimbabwean artistes and we have a lot of surprises waiting. Now you’re going to see Nigerian superstars working with Zimbabwean superstars to release Africa’s greatest songs, that is why I am here.
D’banj’s first collaboration is set to be with Roki, a member of the Passion Java Records stable. Over the past few years, through Passion Java’s connections Roki has managed to collaborate with the likes of Koffi Olomide and Rayvanny. As D’banj said yesterday, he was set to be in the studio with Roki later on to record together.
We are going to be doing something this weekend and I am sure you are going to be knowing about it very soon, but more importantly for me I cannot wait to get into the studio which is happening today with Roki. Once we do it, we release it as soon as possible.
