#RapidReview ::: Haunted by Alpha Centauri’s Diaspora Dreams

Zimbabwe-born Alpha Centauri is a Hip-Hop Artist currently making music out of Canada. Centauri began rapping in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. Diasporan Dreams is a follow-up single to ‘Away‘ in anticipation of his long-awaited EP ‘I Am Who We Are’ due for release this year.
With a menacing, heavy bass beginning, if it weren’t for my previous knowledge of Centauri, I was ready to be coursed down the Hip-Hop cliches of money, cash hoes, but the title kept me focused. I first notice that Centauri sounds less apologetic with a new air of confidence, must be the new space of pursuing his purpose. Seeking more success in the music industry Alpha Centauri has since turned to the international scene and is currently based in Vancouver Island, where he’s opened for several local acts and is a regular performer at legendary venues such as The Queens.
The beat sounds a little dated but enjoyable for the Hip-Hop purists maybe because there’s no skrrr, skrrr or any other laughable mainstream adlibs. Centauri keeps this one clean.
Unlike his last release with Swisher titled Away, Diaspora Dreams is much like its continuation with fewer words. When the latter ended, I was left uncertain, Centauri had so passionately explained his plight but left me in mid-air.
In his own words, Centauri explains the song;
“the song is about being a young Zimbabwean in the diaspora, chasing a dream of making it big and helping everyone else come up.”
Which African can’t relate to the str#RapidReview ::: Haunted by Alpha Centuari's Diaspora Dreamsuggle of leaving family, love and homeland behind to face few realities, a family man, Centauri communicates this pain, ambition and resilience rawly. It’s a brief but haunting listen. Check it out here and let us know what you think of Diasporan Dreams by Alpha Centauri.
