Dr Karikoga Kaseke has been retired from the post of Chief Executive of Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) due to health conditions, effective 01 July 2021.
ZTA Acting Board Chairperson, Dr Precious Sibiya in an announcement says Kaseke’s retirement followed recommendations of a medical board.
“The Board (Board of Directors of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority) and indeed everyone had hoped for his (Kaseke) recovery and we continue to pray for the restoration of his health,” Sibiya said.
“Dr KK, as he is affectionately known, will be sadly missed in the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority in particular and the tourism industry as a whole both locally and beyond our borders.”
Kaseke has not been well since falling ill in November 2018.
Former ZTA Chief Operating Officer Mr Givemore Chidzidzi then took over on behalf of Dr Karikoga Kaseke who has been off work on medical grounds.
From 01 February 2019, Rita Likukuma then took on the acting role of Chief Executive appointed by the former Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Priscah Mupfumira.
Kaseke served ZTA as the Chief Executive June 2005 up until retirement.
The announcement of Kaseke’s retirement, dated today, comes after yesterday’s Sunday Mail showed an advert of a new Chief Executive of ZTA.
Sibiya said “We would like to kindly request you to continue with your support and cooperation as we recruit a new Chief Executive for the organisation (ZTA).”
