Collaboration is an artist’s best friend in today’s music economy. From widening an artist’s audience to prolonging success, a rising tide really does lift all boats. Through various projects, artists continue to collaborate with other musicians to further their careers and gain broader musical experiences.

This week, award-winning contemporary musician and cultural ambassador Hwabaraty’s camp has announced that the mushrooming Bulawayo star will on Monday debut a remix for his song “Umqakezeleni” with a horde of groundbreaking musical acts. Enlisted for the remix are Novuyo Seagirl, Madlela Skhobokhobo, Asaph, POY, Pozee, Sku, Fish F Ndaramu, Mzoe7, Mcheznana, Msiz’kay and Noluntu J.

Based on the positive feedback of uMqakezeleni – a title track on Hwabaraty’s 2019 album – he decided to revive the hit song, this time bringing along eleven Zimbabwean artists with him, and each bringing their unique style and sharing their experiences on receiving applause in the arts industry.

In Ndebele, uMqakezeleni means “clap for him/her”, hence the song is premised on the idea of giving credit where credit is due and clapping for those who have earned the applause.

An artist of note with over fifteen years of experience, Hwabaraty has been recognized by the Bulawayo Arts Awards for Best Alternative Act and recently by the PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards for Best Alternative Musician. To date, his catalogue boasts features from highly sought after artists, the likes of the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah, Tamy Moyo, Sam Siwela, Alexio, Paula Paloma, Jeys Marabini, Mnqobi Yazo, Afrosoul, Asaph, Cooperman, Skhue, and Suka from Spain.

The starstudded uMqakezeleni Remix debuts on Hwabaraty’s YouTube Channel on Monday, July 12. For more news and updates regarding Hwabaraty, you can follow him on Facebook and Instagram.
