Girlfest Zimbabwe is turning back the clock to the 2000s with a retro themed party to bring in the summer. Titled Girlfest Summer Retro edition, the event will see the festival expanding to become a bi-annual event.

The expansion has been driven by demand, with organisers remarking that a lot of festival attendees were asking them to host more events.

A lot of Girlfesters were begging that we increase the number of times the event takes place. We are sure they’ll soon be asking for us to keep increasing but bi-annually is where we draw the line for the now and the near future. – Girlfest Organisers

Set to be hosted on the 12th of October, First Capital Bank Sports Club in Mt Pleasant, Harare, the Girlfest Summer Retro edition will feature a lineup of old school and new school artists, alongside a selection of talented DJs.

We always want to try different things with each edition, just to spice things up and give our patrons something to look forward to. In this case, we just thought ‘why not go down memory lane?’…The main factor [for the lineup] was the theme. We wanted people that relate to the 2000s and just a bit of new school for the younger Girlfesters. – Girlfest Organisers

The new school lineup features talented songstress Tamy Moyo, the current Mr Chitungwiza and rap royalty – Voltz JT, alongside one of the best performers in the country this year – Master H.

For the old school artists there’s going to be a strong contingent of Urban Grooves stars, with “Chidzoka” hitmaker – Roki, the king of Zimbabwean RnB – Trevor Dongo, award winning Afro fusion singer Alexio Kawara, and South African house music legend – DJ Cleo.

The DJ lineup for this edition of Girl Fest will feature: Rax The DJ, DJ Naida, DJ Iroq & Abisha Palmer.

The women only, women organised festival has been running since 2019, as a once off annual event. Creating a safe space for women to wind down and enjoy good food and good music, with the chance of making new friends.
