The management of the late Afropop singer/songwriter Garry Mapanzure, recently released his first posthumous track “Chirimumoyo Chirimuninga”. The song title is a Shona proverb that means what is in the heart is only known by you. This is reflective of the song’s lyrical content as Garry sings about the different unseen battles we all go through.

Softly sung over a slow tempo Tee Jay Musik produced instrumental with the strum of sparkling guitar strings, Chirimumoyo Chirimuninga has the distinct dna of a Garry Mapanzure song. While emotive and drawing poignant emotions, it is still gentle on the ear.

The song was released with visuals directed by Mr Shot It (Kreative Studios) that pay special homage to the late singer. In the opening segment there’s an inscription that reads, “In memory of Garry Mapanzure whose talent and spirit touched many lives. May his legacy continue to shine through his music.”

The video is a mosaic of emotion, with a hooded figure that seems to emulate the late Garry Mapanzure walking through different scenes of troubled youth. After the video’s midpoint there’s a heart wrenching scene as the students of Kyle College hold up a banner in honour of him. In his early life Mapanzure attended Kyle Preparatory School and carried on to do his primary and high school education at the same institution.

Mapanzure rose to prominence in 2017 with the release of his first single “Wapunza”, which has now amassed over 4 million views on YouTube. 2019 saw the contemporary artist being nominated for an AFRIMA award in the Best Artiste, Duo, or Group in African R’N’B & Soul category for his song TV Room, a collaboration with Hillzy.

Mapanzure passed on in October of 2023, after sustaining injuries a traffic accident in Masvingo. He was still only 25. He is survived by his wife Vimbai and a son.
