Anita Jaxson recently released the song Hold My Hand. A special dedication by the artist, written with those fighting depression and suicidal thoughts in mind.
The song’s release almost coincided with the viral social media post of a young Zimbabwean, who was saying his final goodbye before taking his own life. A post thst even touched the likes of South Africa’s Prince Kaybee.
According to the synopsis of Anita Jaxson’s latest song, “…the track was written for anyone suffering from depression or contemplating suicide. Life may have it’s highs and lows but suicide is not the answer. There is always hope and sometimes we just need to hold on.”
Anita Jaxson also goes on to direct those who need someone to talk to to contact Friendship Bench Zimbabwe. This is the free mental intervention initiative founded by Dixon Chibanda in 2007. It was created with the aim of bridging the mental health treatment gap in Zimbabwe and it has so far proven to be an invaluable resource to many who’re facing mental health issues in the country.
Friendship Bench Zimbabwe provides online talk therapy in English, Shona or Ndebele and all one has to do is WhatsApp ‘I need to talk…’ to +263 784 845 294.
Hold My Hand is a song about extending an olive branch and it’s principal message is you’re not alone. Anita Jaxson sings that she can’t bear to lose a friend and she urges one to not let go. Despite the emotions and thoughts it brings to mind, Hold My Hand is a beautiful song. It showcases Anita’s beautiful voice and it’s not just a song for the sake of the message.
Anita Jaxson who was also featured on Winky D’s Eureka Eureka album, is probing to be one of those artists who doesn’t shy away from discussing societal issues. No matter how taboo they’re seen to be.
