Regarded as one Africa’s best New Years Festivals, the Vic Falls Carnival changed it’s dates for it’s 10th edition last year. Before being paused for 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival had always been held from 29 – 31 December.
In an interview with Sunday Mail, the festival director Craig Bright revealed the change of dates had been on the cards for a while before the pandemic hit.
We are changing the narrative from it being a celebration of the year-end and the start of a new one, rather focusing on the celebration of African arts, culture and music. We have been thinking of moving the dates for a few years now and we used the break, due to the pandemic, as an opportunity to re-think and make new plans for our new dates which fall over the Workers’ Day long weekend.
Last year DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small and Sha Sha were a no show, while being on the lineup as headliners.
