South African supergroup Mafikizolo is gearing up for marathon celebrations to mark their 20 years in the music industry next year.
But first Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe have gone for a preen and a prune as they freshen up their look and image.

It’s out with Kgosinkwe’s Swahili blanket and Nciza’s prints.

The best selling and award-winning duo roped in the services of Maxhosa and Dear Ribane to design and style their outfits.

“We like reinventing ourselves and the music inspires the theme of our albums and our fashion. We embrace our African-ness especially after our travels on the continent,” said Kgosinkwe.

Plans for next year are big. “We’ve come a long way and as we celebrate, we remember Tebogo Madingoane, our late member for the role he played in Mafikizolo. We plan to celebrate with the country and the continent. We want to do some free shows in the townships. There are challenges we faced, but we also had some accomplishments.”

The high-flying pair is still recovering from a successful sellout four-state tour of the US, where they performed in Washington DC, Dallas, California and Indiana. They also had some dates in Canadian cities Toronto and Edmonton. “The tour was amazing in the sense that even though the majority of the people that attended were Africans, we had a huge number of Americans attending as well,” said Kgosinkwe

The band is also in studio working on their new album set for a 2017 release. The first single Kucheza
[dance in Swahili] is produced by DJ Maphorisa.
