A series of Art, Activism Campaigns are being hosted by the female Arts Collective, Incubator Hub. In collaboration with a fellow collective, Tamba Africa Circus they are hosting silent protests across Harare in recognition of 16 Days of Activism.

The first protest referred to every-day safety concerns of women on Harare’s streets. More recently protesters stood scattered across Harare’s busiest downtown streets with ‘All Women Matter’ – labelled balloons to commemorate the sex workers who have been assaulted, raped and murdered.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care; there’s an estimated 44 586 Women who sell Sex in Zimbabwe aged between 15 and 49 years.

Words like daughter, sister, mother and aunt hoped to remind the public that Sex Workers are all these things to their loved ones.

The protest took 16minutes and the groups rotated corners every four minutes to represent the brief sexual encounters Sex Workers sell, often titled ‘short time’.
In Zimbabwe, about 1 in 3 women aged 15 to 49 have experienced physical violence and about 1 in 4 women have experienced sexual violence since the age of 15.
