Sunny Tee is a Zimbabwean Music Artist, Jazz aficionado and notable Saxophonist. Literally a few moments ago, he released his debut single titled Sengi Ready which sports his signature live Jazz, Funk and Soul.

Sengi Ready sounds like a lazy Sunday afternoon drizzled with nostalgia. His Saxophone brings about a sexy groove while his easy vocals bring me home, more notably because he sings in isiNdebele. Sunny who was born to Shona parents spent his childhood in Zimbabwe’s second capital; Bulawayo where speaking isiNdebele became a part of his upbringing. This would explain why lyrically, the words, though simple, are unforced and flow with ease in a drawl reminiscent of a very chill Lucky Dube.

Speaking to #ENTHUSE, Sunny explained;

“I got my entire primary education there…Ndebele is as much as my mother tongue as Shona.”

Sunny Tee who is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has been in music professionally for close to two decades. Sengi Ready according to Sunny Tee was inspired by his daughter who is based in Australia.

“I had always somehow feared to put my ideas out in an official way but my daughter said something that pushed me to go for it.”

So far apart, Sunny Tee’s daughter was worried that her friends thought she didn’t have a father because they had never met him.

Charged and emboldened in her honour, Sunny Tee released his debut on the eve of his daughters’ eight birthday.

I want her to be able to say “Google my Dad”. he said

First of all…

How smart is his kid?

Second…

How cute is that

Third, we’re ready to see Sunny Tee get out there too!

Sengi Ready has got the makings of a lockdown soundtrack. Besides it making a good first official offering; we could all really do with a bit of the encouragement and bravery it offers right about now.

Have a listen to Sengi Ready on Spotify, YouTube, Deezer. iTunes or below.
