The Entry: Life Of Rue

Dear diary,

I can add today to my short pile of good days, we both know this year counts as the worst of my entire existence. Today was different, I woke up with a little more energy than usual, the sun shined a little brighter and the air seemed a little sweet (excuse my cliche).

Everything about my day was usual but did not feel like the usual, I was late for class as usual and today was the worst day to be late because it was presentation day, had my classmate blowing up my phone because I was late. I left my room at 09.30 for a 09.30 lecture (smh), times like this I wish teleportation was real. Aside from that, I sat through lectures that may or may not have been boring but I had no choice, exams start on Wednesday and today they gave most exam tips away.

If anything stood out about today, I had my official induction into AIESEC a few hours ago. I was excited, it’s something to keep me occupied, a good start to a new chapter. Why wait for the new year to start a new chapter? 15 of us got accepted into the club, I’m actually the only black girl in the club and 1 of 3 foreigners, guess whose Turkish will be on fleek after the next 3 years? Mine. I chose to be on the marketing side of the organisation, which involves a bit of travelling and lots of public speaking. I think I’m ready to get back to who I was, can’t hide from the world forever, right?

After my induction, I went to visit my friends, I’m actually surprised I hadn’t been there in a week. Seeing them on campus and at home are two different things, I had actually missed them even though we spoke often on social media. It’s just not the same until you’re in the same room, just chilling, telling stories, laughing or discussing the midterms. (Here comes the part that made my day) While I was there, I received a message from an old friend who wants to do one of the sweetest things ever for me, being the sceptic I am, I initially thought they were joking only for my friend to squash my doubts. Now, it’s not what they want to do for me that made me all happy and teary but it’s the thought and the effort, I mean, I haven’t seen this person in years but I’m still someone they think of and they occasionally message me to see how I am. I guess it was a reminder from above, telling me that I still have good and genuine friends out there.

This is one of those few nights where I go to bed with a smile on my face.

Until my next entry…
