“Think Before You Click” : Government Launches the Cyber Security Awareness Month

The Zimbabwean government has set aside the whole month of November to host the National Cyber Security Awareness Month going under the theme “Think before you click” #Safe Surfing.

ICT Minister Jenfan Muswere in his talking points said independent initiatives and organized events guarantee that the month of November will all be about cyber security awareness in its most varied aspects.

“The National Cyber Security Awareness Month provides the perfect opportunity to promote cybersecurity awareness and safety tips, ultimately changing behaviors to protect people against the ever-growing cyber threats,” Muswere said.

“There is no escaping the reality that our lives, homes, economic prosperity, and national security are impacted by the growth of these technologies and the internet that is now readily available on our mobile devices that we carry everywhere we go.”

The Ministry of ICT will lead the national cybersecurity public awareness, education, training, and workforce development efforts to support the protection against and response to cyber threats and hazards to individuals, companies, and the nation at large during the month of November.

“We believe this National Cyber Security Awareness Month will provide a valuable avenue for the policy-makers, regulators, industry leaders, academia as well as the Civil Society to discuss, share and exchange their views and experiences on addressing the key policies and strategies for safeguarding our nation,” Muswere said.

“We would like to encourage individuals, corporates, Government departments, academic institutions, civil society to come up with their own key initiatives, programs and measures to tackle the online risks faced by Citizens and to proffer solutions for protecting them from accessing risky content as well engaging in negative online behavior.”

Activities will focus on thematic areas which include safeguarding the national critical infrastructure, emerging technologies, cyber security in the workplace, and child online safety.

Objectives of the National Cyber Security Awareness month include the following;

⦁ To promote online security and safety.
⦁ To cultivate a cyber-security culture amongst internet stakeholders.
⦁ To unlock new opportunities for cyber security collaboration and information sharing.
