#Cricket4Good: We don’t ‘like’ Cricket, We LOVE it!

All eyes are on the green, and we don’t mean money! We mean the well watered lawns of Zimbabwean Sports Clubs in Harare, Kwekwe and Bulawayo for what has been the  2018 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup Qualifiers which have featured ten countries bidding for an appearance in England and Wales next year.

Having kicked off in early February, it’s been a good couple of weeks of leisurely cricket watching, free games open to the public which are historically very well broadcasted.
According to a Presser form the ICC:

“The ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 will be televised to fans for the first time ever, across five continents in 200 territories”

Call us competitive but the Chevron’s winning streak adds to the general feel good flavour (read as flevha), that’s settled in the ‘Miz’.

Speaking of feeling good, the International Cricket Council has been up to just that through ‘Cricket For Good’ Clinics around the country.

Cricket For Good was created as the ICC’s global community outreach programme aimed at leveraging the vast reach of cricket globally to positively impact the lives of children and families worldwide through a five-year with partners such as UNICEF. Since October 2015, they’ve used the platform to advocate for children through interest in the gentleman’s game.

The Cricket For Good clinics are also a means to make cricket more accessible to kids around the world, facilitating the participation of international teams and children from local schools to inspire kids to take to the game. The clinics give the youngsters a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact with international cricketers. To date ten of these have been hosted in Zimbabwe in participating towns, featuring teams such as The Netherlands,West Indies, Ireland and Hong Kong to mention a few.

Often on here, we refer to the power of Art forms and creativity,BUT it would be unfair if we didn’t highlight the impact of giving young generations a chance, a chance to hear, interact and learn from individuals they look up to, in Sports – in this case International Cricketers. *sniff*

Now our insides feel like all kinds of goo…

The Spirit of Cricket and our overwhelming need to tear up aside, if this isn’t  a good reason to #BackOurBoys, we can’t image a better reason…no really…we can’t so maybe…let’s recap!

  • The games are free
  • The players are kicking it with disadvantaged kids to inspire them for brighter futures
  • The games are free
  • Zimbabwe’s on a winning streak!  *knocks on wood*
  • Did we mention, the games are free?!

There aren’t many games left but, here’s the Schedule below, grab a cooler bag, your floppiest hat and loudest HOWZAT! It’s so on!
