Art has a beautifully mesmerizing characteristic about it: it changes every time you indulge in it. This is where the term ‘timeless’ came from I think. Honestly speaking, most of the music I listen to really have that transcendental aspect to it. Karun’s feature on Ukweli’s production, Roses, is one such record.

It doesn’t matter that I discovered it just a few hours ago, it feels like it goes before, between and beyond time and yes, it’s wavy!

Miss Karun made her debut in the music industry barely a decade ago when she was a queen of the Nairobi hip-hop and R&B troupe, Camp Mulla, and my oh my has her solo career grown to levels 18yr old me wouldn’t have fathomed. Roses is a delectable treat to lovers and singles alike and the minimalistic rhythm Ukweli lays on this beat is so flowery (pun intended). This is an easy-going track that I think is a great prep to the weekend and politely gets you in the mood. Remember those days we wrote letters in class and made dedications to our lovers? This is the kinda song you dedicated to your better half.

I think we should bring back letter-writing now. Alright, I’m now musing.

If you’re a slow jam kinda person who also loves a little soul in their trap….trapsoul huh, this is your tune fam! Enjoy.
