Renowned gospel choral group Vabati VaJehova will tonight launch their 17th album Ngandibereke Mapudzi which features a stellar collaboration with high-flying pop music star Jah Prayzah.

The launch is happening at the Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare.

The gospel choral outfit has gone a step further in widening their audience by engaging the services of Jah Prayzah on the album who features on the song Fambai Naro Shoko.

The seven-track album will be released along with Zvishuwo Zvemoyo video which was shot in South Africa last month.

Other songs on the album include Musha Wekudenga, Mumwe Ariko and Mumoyo Mangu.

“This is our 17th album as Vabati VaJehova and it carries seven songs. This time around we will be releasing the album together with a video of one of the songs. We have settled for the Zimbabwe College of Music and we have made the necessary arrangements to make the day a memorable one,” the group’s front-man Richard Magaya said.

Jah Prayzah, Kudzi Nyakudya and Irene Mutangadura are among other musicians who are expected to grace the launch.

The group continues to show its versatility as exhibited last year when they featured on dancehall star Winky D’s album on the popular song Dzika Ngirozi and this time Jah Prayzah.

“We work so well with other musicians. We support their initiatives hence they also support us. It was a good experience working with Jah Prayzah on our song and we are confident the album will touch the hearts of many,” he said.

The group has remained as one of the most consistent choral groups while others are splitting and folding into extinction. They have topped charts with a number of songs and they are confident their latest offering is the right formula to preach through music.

Meanwhile, the outfit is set to embark on their maiden United Kingdom tour, their first outside the African continent.

In a different press stop, Richard Magaya told the NewsDay on Wednesday that they were delighted to get the chance to play live for their fans in the UK at a show pencilled for April 27 at the Banqueting Suite in Coventry.

“This is our first tour overseas, and we have been preparing for it for a long time. We are happy that we have finally made it though it’s only a one day show. Our UK fans will have the opportunity to sample our latest album, Tivavarire Denga, which has been well received on the local market and some songs from the other album to be released soon,” he said.

“We want to thank some people, who we cannot publicise, who are helping in various areas pertaining to the holding of this show.”

Among others, Vabati VaJehova will share the stage at the concert with Madzibaba Masango and Rhoda Tongogara, popularly known as Mai Tongogara.

The group broke into the music scene in 1999 with their debut album Mweya Mutsvene waMwari that included the hit song Anouya Chete.
