As Nigeria joins the rest of the Word in celebrating World Theater Day, Thespians have decried the criticism from religious leaders who term Creative work of Art as Idol worship .

Speaking at an event organized by the National Association of Nigerian Theater Arts Practitioners, Mr. Ben Tomoloju described the theater art sector of Nigerian entertainment Industry as the most threatened by the Nigerian environment and he insisted that there should be a marriage between Religion and Creative Arts in order to eliminate the dichotomy that is being created.

Speaking furthermore, Tomoloju called on government to provide more regulatory measure that would protect theater arts from charlatan and fraudsters who have invaded the profession in order to protect other sectors who have dealings with thespians.

In his welcome address, the Interim President of National Association of Nigerian Theater Art Practitioners, Mr. Israel Eboh stated that theater art practitioners should become the heroes they desired instead of wanting a messiah from outside. He called on stakeholders to join hands in collaboration in order to tap into the inner energy embedded in the industry.

Mr. Eboh frowned at the attitude of some members of the Private sector who refer to theater art practitioners as artisans and only call on them when there is need to project good corporate image for their brands and products.

While giving his opening remarks, the chairman of Lagos State chapter of NANTAP, Mr. Adeniran Makinde, described the event as a new dawn, a gathering of Eagles that have defiled the limitations affecting the industry but have embraced the strength and unity of the theater to grace today’s event. He congratulated them and stated that branding NANTAP as a tool which would galvanize the theater as a springboard for effective recovery from economic recession is a necessity and all hands must be on deck to make it happen.
