Contemporary gospel artist Sabastian Magacha has spoken out about the uproar he found himself in this week after he posted a dress-like robe outfit, saying it was hugely inspired by what Jesus wore during his days.

The Mweya Mutsvene hitmaker told Report Focus News in an interview that men’s robes are common in many parts of the world, including Nigeria, Islamic countries and Ireland.

“As you are aware men- robes are common in many parts of the world, including Nigerian, the Muslim countries, the Irish and particularly for this look I took a lot of inspiration from Jesus who wore men-robes. My aim is to create something that is global,” said the award-winning gospel sensational.

Magacha’s outfit is part of his new clothing line yet to be unveiled to the public. The new range features men-robes, sharp tailoring and frock coats.

Although many people found his new dressing style dazzling, a considerably good number of critics begged to differ, even going an extra mile to brand the musician gay because of the feminine look of his clothes.

Responding to allegations of homosexuality and those who say it does not reflect the godliness expected of a gospel musician, Magacha said he is a lover and follower of Jesus Christ.

“My faith is as solid as it can be, at this moment my relationship with God is at its best. I feel closer to Him now than ever before, and to me, that is what matters. As someone who has been in the public light for over 15 years, I have received a lot of negative and positive comments from people.

My main focus is on God and for me to allow the gift of creativeness that God gave me to manifest. I am from a society of very opinionated individuals, whatever they think, I will always love and appreciate them either way,” he said.

Magacha said his dressing may not be welcome to some people, but there are some who appreciate his style.

“My aim is to make sure I create something that is international but speaking to and appealing to a specific niche. Just like everything that is out there, other people may not always accept this. However, there are also those who appreciate this style of dressing. Our main focus is on them.”
