Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo has sympathised with Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) leader Prophet Magaya who was shoved to recant his claims that he had found a cure for HIV/Aids and cancer amid intense political pressure.

Addressing the media at a press conference that was also attended by Prophet Magaya, Dr Moyo accepted Magaya’s apology and said the prophet made his claims without realising the impact of it considering his huge following.

He announced that they were working together to test the herb and that it was ill-omened that Magaya, regardless of coming up with a cure that could aid the country, did not pass muster the gazetted health statutes.

“Magaya rushed without realising the impact of his message and his popularity and disregarded the facts in the regulation of medicines in the country. He now appreciates that there are regulations.

I want to reiterate that please carry on with your medicines, Magaya’s medicine has not yet been approved. It’s unfortunate that Magaya did not have all regulations in place,” said Min. Moyo.

“Zimbabwe appreciates new discoveries but we want them to go through scientifically proven processes and these processes are what we are following now. He has assured us that he will not dispense that medication. And now following the regulations, he is now back in the fold.

It is not our duty to thwart anyone’s ideas of discoveries. We have been using herbal concoctions from other countries.”

Speaking at the same occasion, Prophet Magaya ate the humble pie and apologised to the nation citing excitement as the reason behind his alacrity in announcing a “cure” for HIV and cancer without following procedures on introducing a new drug.

He said he would now undertake clinical trials for his product.

“I took heed of what government and relevant boards have asked me to do to retract my earlier claim, which I am now doing. I carry an apology to them and the public. Having carried the research from outside the country, I went on to announce the results unprocedurally.

I apologise once again. Together we are going to work towards running intensive clinical trials for Aguma,” he said.

Magaya maintained that his announcement was not a publicity stunt.

The World Health Organisation, the United Nations and medical societies were among some of the stakeholders who had earlier dismissed Magaya‘s claims, terming the announcement unethical.
