Of late, Zimbabwean Music videos that artists are churning out can now be considered of international quality. It’s a major change from the sub- standard green screen the urban grooves era drowned us in and it’s paying off very well. It’s now normal to see a Tocky Vibes video following an Ice Prince video on Trace Africa and Channel O. You go guys!
Jah Prayzah’s ‘Tora Mari’ has over a 1 985 665 views on YouTube and ‘Mukoko’ is following steadily with 1 039 162 views. This really big considering our music videos were virtually non-existent on YouTube with the maximum views the artists got just reaching a measly 10 000. We are very proud of our artists [read that in Hon. Chinotimba’s voice].

However there is one artist that may not be getting a lot of views but his video may surpass all the preceding videos mentioned. I’m talking about Charlie Kay people, a UK based producer/artist who has a banger of a video titled ‘Vimbai’. This is his debut video and it is the future, don’t say we never told you this!

Charles Kutedza aka Charlie Kay draws his influences from African genres and in turn is trying to push his own unique brand of Afrocentric Pop. This guy’s vocals are off the hook and the fresh sound he is bringing is unheard of in Zimbabwe. The video is directed by Tatenda Jamera, who is arguably one of the best Zimbabwean video directors. Tatenda has worked with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Awilo just to mention a few and this talented director is promising more projects with Charlie Kay which are going to drop before the end of the year.

To tease us, Tatenda told #ENTHUSE that when he goes back to the UK, he is going to work with Charlie Kay on a new video from a track which features Nox. This track we are told is going to be a wedding song and has been awarded ‘anthem’ status prior to its release. Well, we can’t wait!
If any of you have doubts on what the combination of Charlie Kay’s vocal talent and Tatenda’s visual prowess I would suggest you watch ‘Vimbai’, and enjoy the revelation of this oncoming revolution!
