From the creators of “God’s Not Dead,” here comes a new trailer for the Bible epic Samson, an action-packed starring Billy Zane, Golden Globe winner Rutger Hauer and Jackson Rathbone premiering nationwide Feb. 16.

Taylor James takes on the role of the famed, long-haired Bible hero.

A Hebrew with an unusual gift of strength must respond properly to the call of God on his life in order to lead his people out of enslavement. After his youthful ambition leads to a tragic marriage, his acts of revenge thrust him into direct conflict with the Philistine army.

As his brother mounts a tribal rebellion, only Samson’s relationship with a Philistine temptress/seductress, Delilah (played by Caitlin Leahy) and his final surrender – both to the Philistines and to God – turns imprisonment and blindness into final victory.

Samson’s journey of passion, betrayal, and redemption inspires audiences to realize that life’s failures need not define their future.

Pure Flix Entertainment CEO Michael Scott comments:

‘For anyone who ever wondered if they really could do what God called them to do, this film is for them?’

Director Bruce Macdonald elaborating the movie said:

“Most people know that Samson had long hair, Delilah cut it off, and that he lost his strength. But there’s so much more. Samson was an unwilling hero, and his journey to regain his faith-the whole story – Is relevant in 2017.”

Written by Zachary Warren Smith, Jason Baumgardner, Galen Gilbert, and Timothy Ratajczak, Samson was filmed on location in South Africa and is a production of Pure Flix Entertainment.

According to the creators, this will have a more triumphalistic take on Samson than the Bible does.

The biblical Samson is one of the Bible’s biggest screw-ups — flagrantly violating the laws of Moses, allowing his emotions to get the better of him, and failing to recognize that his Philistine lover is trying to trap him. His story ends with an act of public suicide that kills many Philistines too but leaves their network of city-states very much in power.

Samson is the fifth Bible movie that Pure Flix has made, but it will be their first foray into this genre since God’s Not Dead made them a whole whack of money four years ago.

The only actor on the cast who has any previous experience in this genre is Billy Zane, who starred in the 2012 version of Barabbas. Lindsay Wagner (a.k.a. The Bionic Woman) also has at least one “faith-based” film under her belt, having played Billy Graham’s mother in Billy: The Early Years.
