Hip-hop artist Denimwoods has been working on becoming the best at it in the region, ultimately the world over. After setting the pace with his last body of work Dirty Corolla Music Vol.1 about a year ago, the rapper is ending his months-long of dry spell with the release of a new single, titled ‘All I Got’.
The new song is a melodious record about the oldest of tales, ‘the one that got away”, and on it, Denimwoods blends afro-pop and R&B, infusing English with just a little French to tell a tale of a girl who meant something to her partner with her partner only realising this in the aftermath of their relationship. In the lyrics, he entangles different tones and cadences. He utters how he only got to the realisation that the girl he was in love with is “All he’s got” after things go sour between them.
The song was produced by Vic Enlisted.
Of the record, the GREEN$ & SUPREME$ wordsmith has this to say:
“The record is about a girl who I only realised meant something to me only when we began treading on eggshells, trying to find balance within the relationship. Your passion could be difficult sometimes, in most cases – constant feuding or reassurance tends to be the outcome. Seeing I might lose her, convincing her she’s all I got. The only option left was to hold on to what we have.”
The record is a depiction of how young people easily give into ending relationships or give up on love at the first inconvenience instead of putting pride aside and keeping striding through all the ups and downs.
“The record was about all my past “situationships” or relationships jumbled into one “super ex”, it was not necessarily one person but moments & memories that correlated well enough to be able to convey these emotions,” added Denimwoods.
Born in Zambia and bred in Zimbabwe, Abraham Mulumba Lupwishi, Denimwoods is a Congolese, multi-genre artist and songwriter who debuted on the proverbial scene in 2017 with the release of his single “Home Alone”.
As the stars would have it, Denim was one of ten artists in Zimbabwe who were selected for the inaugural edition of emPawa Africa, a continent-wide initiative spearheaded by Nigerian music icon Mr Eazi to identify, mentor, fund and nurture Africa’s next generation of talent.
In his penmanship, Denimwoods draws on his experiences as an “outcast” to write songs that resonate with any young person’s struggle to fit in, while simultaneously defining personal identity. Infamously dubbed ‘The Congolese Foul Mouth Delinquent‘, he is a vibrant, non-conforming, talented artist with incredible range and an undeniable border-defying appeal.
“All I Got” is out on Friday, the 10th of June.
