Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs minister, Sibusiso Moyo has welcomed the Chinese response to the questioned treatment of Africans in China.
The Chinese Government went under the spotlight after videos and reports of Africans facing racism in China went viral on social media.

“The Government of Zimbabwe appreciates the measures undertaken by the Chinese Government to address issues raised in the reports,” Moyo said.
“We welcome the assurance given by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chen Xiaodong to the Group of African Ambassadors on 12 April 2020, that our nationals will be treated equally, without discrimination and that their safety and welfare will always be guaranteed.”

By 23 February 2020, Zimbabwe had about 800 citizens in Hubei and around 350 students in Wuhan.

“Zimbabwean nationals in Guangzhou and China as a whole, are urged to continue to respect and abide by the laws of the People’s Republic of China including the containment measures,” said Moyo.
“As always, the Embassy in Beijing remains open to attend to any concerns that they may have on this or any other issues.”
“At this juncture, the Government of Zimbabwe wishes to express gratitude to our Chinese counterpart for their efforts in ensuring the safety and welfare of Zimbabwe nationals at the critical stages of the pandemic,” he said.

African countries summoned Chinese Ambassadors after getting videos which pointed to racism against black people.
In Zimbabwe, the Chinese Ambassador counter accused Zimbabwean health facilities of denying citizens from China treatment.
