Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln are set for their own The Walking Dead spin-off series. The series will be centred around their popular characters from the show, Rick and Michonne.

The spin-off will come as the third show out of The Walking Dead and it will come after The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

The still untitled spin-off had been set for 2023 but was officially pushed back a year to 2024. AMC announced the update in January a few months after the Rick and Michonne series was first confirmed. When asked about it in an interview with Deadline, Gurira characterised the spin-off as an epic love story.

It’s definitely an epic love story. It’s very much rooted in the world we know of, and then and then another world that we don’t know yet.

The Walking Dead is an American post-apocalyptic horror drama television series based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard—together forming the core of The Walking Dead franchise. The series features a large ensemble cast as survivors of a zombie apocalypse trying to stay alive under near-constant threat of attacks from zombies known as “walkers” (among other nicknames).

In addition to the Rick and Michonne spin-off, Danai Gurira seems set for a Black Panther spin-off series too for her character in film, Okoye. In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actress said she had been told she can gently allude to the possibility of an Okoye spin-off series.

Gurira has occupied the role of Okoye, a general of the all-female special force group Dora Milaje, since the first Black Panther film in 2018.
