The road to ‘What is love’

Love has always been a complex word and it is hard to find one befitting definition. Many view love in different ways depending on their experience, in other words there are underlying factors that determines one’s definition. So in this mind a woman by the name Angela Fama launched a ‘What is love’ project. The project is a multidisciplinary contemporary photography project aimed at collaboratively redefining the word ‘love’ past perceived differences.

What is love is housed under the umbrella project WABISABI BUTTERFLY, founded by Angela Fama in 2010 with the concept of bringing together adult survivors of trauma and sexual abuse to form safe, respectful and inclusive communities engaged in the arts and positive change. For five months, Angela Fama traveled in a photo studio where she individually sat with each participant, asking the same set of questions and documenting their conversation through audio and series of images.

The captured photographic responses vary from each person but there are the same definitions that each definition feeds from. Last week at the First floor gallery Fama explained how each response differs too from what people’s experiences and what surrounds them.
