Who doesn’t love a good old East meet meets South African collaboration? Well we aren’t ones to decline. Yesterday on the Family Tree YouTube account Cassper Nyovest‘s collaboration with Davido was out to the world. Arguably the biggest musical powerhouses on the continent right now we were ready for the ‘Fia’ so to speak! A few seconds in we couldn’t help mumbling the lyrics  “I need to see Charlotte, I need to call Charlotte…”

Perhaps it’s because the Producer of ‘Charlotte’ Prince Kaybee is sure they used ‘his’ chords for this new hit track or maybe because damn, the song really does just sound like Charlotte with some Pantsula flavour with Davido ‘Baba’ vocals to it.

Sadly this wouldn’t be the first time Cassper Nyovest has been called out for his somewhat ‘copy and paste’ approach, a good number of outcries referred to the Tito Mboweni – star as a biter from song themes, Music videos, CD Covers and yes even instrumentals!

Prince Kaybee’s tweet has fans both cautioning his outbursts and verbally abusing him for such a defamatory statement. All the while Davido seasoned Mzansi’s hardest working DJ with some premium shade…

His fellow, Thutho didn’t hold back, opting to completely ignore Kaybee’s contribution referring instead to the chords that he initially sampled to make ‘Charlotte’ of Malaika’s ‘Destiny’.

Whether Prince Kaybee was being a cry baby or being a modern day David standing up to a pair of musical giants, the Jury is still very much out on this one. How do Creatives draw the line between inspiration, imitation and recreation? Have a watch and tell us what you think of this new collaboration ‘baba‘!
