The National Gallery of Zimbabwe is celebrating the career of illustrious ceramicist, Marjorie Wallace, with a retrospective exhibition spanning her entire career.
Working under Mutapo Pottery, Wallace created works that traversed utility into aesthetic value. The one of a kind collectible crockery gained the ceramicist international recognition.
The sought after pieces had a signature style; as one would observe, basket weaving would be mimicked, with patterns that are cognizant to the viewer being ever present as her motifs.
Marjorie Wallace’s retrospective exhibition has been curated by a team that includes Farai Wallace and Heeten Bhagat. It features works from her studio and a swathe of collections from within and outside Zimbabwe.
“Majorie Wallace of Mutapo pottery: A Retrospective” is set to run from 8 August until 30 September at National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare.
This is the gallery’s first retrospective exhibition since Anthony Bumhira’s Ndiani Mambo in 2023.
