Rising Afro-soul talent Khwezi ZW has made a return to his musical roots with his latest single “Mas’bambaneni,” a heartfelt collaboration with the Matopo High School Choir. The song shines a light on mental health, love, and healing, and it is part of the Echoes of Silence Project, sponsored by the British Council.
“I went through the most traumatic experiences alone… no shoulder to lean on, no one to talk to. It almost killed me. I don’t want that to happen to anyone,” shared the singer on the project’s inspiration.
Recorded in the heart of Matopo, the track blends youthful choral harmonies with Khwezi’s emotive voice, creating a soulful anthem of unity and hope. Why Matopo? For Khwezi, the decision was deeply personal, as the singer’s musical talent was initially shaped there during his 6 years at Matopo High School.
“Matopo is the place where I fully explored my talent in music – surely a music hub. It only made sense to go back there, to give back, while tackling depression and spreading the message that love heals,” shared Khwezi.
“Mas’bambaneni” is just the beginning, both in regards to the full Echoes of Silence, project it is a part of and Khwezi’s career plans. The singer is set to release another single in the coming months, and with his raw honesty and message-driven artistry he is positioning himself as an important emerging voices in Zimbabwe.
