A new face on the music scene, JRDN recently released her debut solo single, the bold and fiery, “BIG VIBE.” A rap song that is not only a public address but a tale of radical self acceptance, centred on how the artist considers self worth a far more important commodity than public acceptance.
The song is produced by legendary Zimbabwean hip hop producer Take Five (Take Fizzo), who brings together a fast paced mesh of hip hop and electronic music on the instrumental. It almost feels too fast for a rap song but somehow JRDN manages to tame it with a cadence that resonates at the same beats per minute. The rhythm of her flow brings to mind Jersey club music.
BIG VIBE’s artwork features the track title on a backdrop of hateful posts and messages that have been directed JRDN. Mirroring this graphic, the first verse opens with the artistic speaking as these different voices. From lyricism that raises the question “Who do you think you are?” JRDN responds with a declaration that says “I am who I think I am!”
BIG VIBE is ultimately a defiant song and it presents an artist finding her own voice. The single is JRDN’s second ever release after her collaboration with Vera ZW, “You,” which dropped earlier this year.
BIG VIBE is available across all music streaming platforms.
