The Minister of Enjoyment, Dr Chaii, recently collaborated with songstress Gemma Griffiths for “Rudo.” A duet that speaks to the power of love, through it’s heartfelt lyricism. The near perfect collaboration.
“Rudo” has an amapiano inspired instrumental but it is faster paced than the usual bpm for the genre. It feels like it would be more appropriate to put it under Afropop, yet it’s beauty is in fitting either label.
While Dr Chaii is as vibrant as ever despite the subject matter, Gemma Griffiths brings a stirring vocal performance that perfectly settles the song. A brazen spirit meeting a tender hearted soul. “Rudo” feels like a genuine tale of love, and on either side there’s certainly the channeling of lived experiences.
Since it’s release the track has been featured by DJ Edu on BBC1Xtra and playlisted multiple times on Apple Music, including being featured on the ‘Amapiano to the World’ playlist.
