Cassper Nyovest Opens Up On Depression

While all we can do is imagine the pressures that come with stardom and their impact on ones’ Mental Health, nothing could have prepared us for the death of Hip Hop Pantsula and the revelations that ensued.

This loss, and those before it has opened up tonnes of dialogue about matters surrounding depression and our contribution to the mental well-being of friends and loved ones.  Our consciousness of the signs that come with these.

When HHP passed on, tonnes of celebrities poured out their condolences.

Prince Kaybee wrote a song about it and South African Hip-Hop Artist Cassper Nyovest called HHP “a close friend”

While speaking at a presser over this weekend; Cassper hit us with a dark, yet, real response when asked about HHP.

“I’m not an expert but I realise that depression is real…it is around me and around the people I care about…money isn’t the answer, pills aren’t the answer, you could be there but you might not be what this person needs,” he shared.

 A very sombre Cassper shared on some of his internal battles;

“I’ve battled with depression, mostly anxiety…my sister was admitted for depression” said Cassper.

The South African Rapper who has a Kwaito-inspired album dropping this December just in time for his Moses Mabhida Stadium Fill Up Campaign; admitted that it was sometimes pursuit for perfection that led to depression,

“I make a lot of mistakes…I have a temper, sometimes I say things on camera that I shouldn’t have…I get embarrassed but it’s cool, I’m not trying to be perfect, that’d be depressing,”said the Tito Mboweni star.

It defo takes a lot of courage to be that honest about an issue that some may even consider emasculating. As ridiculous as that may sound, it helps when superheroes of Music like Cass speak out about the dark blanket that seems to almost be eclipsing this generation.

More life and strength to you Thuto! ✊❤

Cassper Nyovest spoke at a press conference in Harare, Zimbabwe for the RSVP show which features himself and artists such as Prince Kaybee, Sylent Nqo, Tamy, Takura and Jah Signal at Glamis Arena on the 10th of November 2018.

Sometimes I write, sometimes I say things. More often, I do them.
