Zimbabwe’s Ammara Brown is set to release her much-anticipated début album Ammartia on Friday 10th November. The multi-award winning songstress will host her launch event at The Venue in Avondale, Harare the same place we earlier got to take a sneak peek and listen to whats been termed Ammara’s  “five-year labour of love”.

The Album has been described as an Afro Pop explosion of sound, taking the listener on a beautiful, heartfelt and interwoven journey. With unexpected fusions of Afrobeats, Sungura, Traditional and Mbira influences blended with House, Dancehall, RnB and Country creating a wholly unique Afropolitan sound here are a few of our observations…

A Collaboration with Jazz legend Hugh Masekela

One young female Artist does not just wake-up and collaborate with South Africa’s godfather of Jazz on not one, but two songs titled Next Lifetime and Ode to Mama.  Of course, this isn’t the first time bra Hugh has made a Zimbo connection but we ‘ve got to give kudos where they are due.  Trust Ammara to do what her musical peers can only daydream about.

Chiweddar : MTM

Ammartia features the heavy guarded presence of the Jah Prayzah founded Military Touch Movement that sees collaborations with Nutty-O for that Dancehall flavour. The young Producer, Chiweddar under MTM has his fingers all over Ammara’s pie having produced 4 out of 14 tracks. Lest we mention the heavy cast shadow of the acclaimed DJ Tamuka whose name is synonymous with anthems such as ‘Chekeche‘ and Andy Muridzo’s ‘Emma’; produced two tracks – chart-topping ‘Akilliz’ and Poppy ‘Crystal Blue Moon’.

Speaking of Akilliz, let’s talk videos

The long-awaited video of Ammara’s current hit song ‘Akilliz’ is promised to drop on the big day much to the mixed emotions of fan disgruntlement, anxiety and of course anticipation. We’re hoping it’s worth the wait.  Fingers crossed Ammartia!

There’s no sign of Tehn!

Am I the only one who fantasized about a hot collaboration between this new it couple? Just me then, well,  a girl can dream.

Anyway!

Ammartia’s launch is a big deal for both Ammara’s fans and herself. The début album comes after a long outcry from fans and many a self-proclaimed Music Analyst who believed it was improper for Ammara to continue down her path of Performing and Collaborative Artist.

Be that as it may, stating the obvious the Album, it also, has the mammoth task of somewhat ‘proving’ Ammara’s Musical legitimacy as the prodigy and offspring of Musicians of epic proportions, Chiwoniso and Andy Brown. An unfair measurement and a clear side-effect of Queening like a boss!

In a press statement, Ammara seemed less concerned about meeting our expectations and more about forging her own path with songs inspired by personal experiences and lessons learnt.

“I feel like it’s a true reflection of the multifaceted yet African woman I am. I’m incredibly excited to become an even greater part of the sonic history of Africa.” – Ammara Brown

We’re counting down till the star-studded event which will feature Stand-Up Comedian, Clive Chigubhu as host with supporting acts that include poets The Tateguru, Black Pearl and DJ Reverb 7.
The Ammartia album launch takes place at The Venue in Avondale Harare on the 10th of November, tickets are already available at The Venue and at Tech Tools, Avondale.
