Zimdancehall’s favourite son Winky D, is in the running for the Best African Entertainer Award at this year’s International Reggae and World Music Awards. This was revealed during an online announcement ceremony by IRAWMA.

The Zimdancehall chanter will battle out Ghana’s Stonebwoy, and Shata Wale, Nigeria’s Patoranking, and Sierra Leone’s Star Zee. During a press conference, Winky D revealed that he felt moved by the nomination.

This nomination genuinely moves my spirit. It builds shared understandings that pull our lives together in music, and also inspires me to strengthen the trust I have in the simple commonsensical hope that my music speaks.

The 40th International Reggae & World Music Awards ceremony will be held on the 7th of May 2023 in Kingston, Jamaica.

The International Reggae and World Music Awards, IRAWMA were established in 1982. They acknowledge and honour the accomplishments and contributions of reggae and world music artists. Including songwriters, performers, promoters and musicians.
