Yes! The world famous reggae and pop band UB40 is set to perform in Harare. It seems Walter Wanyanya’s Ngoma Nehosho is organising the concert this year.
Well technically it’s not the original band but UB40 featuring Ali Campbell which is a split off from the original group.
The original group maintains ownership of the rights to the UB40 name so the splinter group uses UB40 featuring Ali Campbell. It was at some point known as UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey.
According to the group’s website they were founded by Ali Campbell before he was joined by a fellow UB40 founding member in Astro.
We are UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, the founding member and lead singer of UB40. Ali left the original band in 2008 citing management issues and was vindicated when said managers were struck off. Ali was then reunited with Astro when he left the original band in 2013. Ali and Astro took the world by storm, captivating audiences everywhere they went, releasing three new albums together reaching number 2 in the UK charts. Heartbreakingly, Astro passed away after a very short illness in November 2021 after they’d finished their incredible fourth album – Unprecedented.
UB40 featuring Ali Campbell are set to perform on Africa Day (May 25) at Old Hararians Sports Club. Tickets are due to go on sale this Friday the third of March from Techtools in Avondale, Pariah State Borrowdale, Pariah State Avondale and Pariah State Highland Park. General admission tickets will be going for $60 a piece.
According to online ticketing platforms, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell are set to tour South Africa beginning the 30th of May, which fits in with their concert date for Harare.
