Under the banner of record label Learn Shona, Shona Prince (Takura) and Sane Wav have collaborated for the single, “HMU” (Hit Me Up).
The emotive love song is driven by yearning and delivered in soulful notes of R&B. Over carefully crafted bass lines Shona Prince glides with lyrics that speak of desire, healing and an earnest love: “Broken heart, was on the floor, you came picked me up/Put the pieces all together ukamafitira.” This is complimented by Sane Wav’s softly sung verse that centres lust more than love, but still manages to excel in storytelling.
“HMU” brings together two artists from across generations: Shona Prince – a new name but an old legend in Zimbabwe’s urban music space, and Sane Wav a rising star of the moment who has untold potential.
Shona Prince, Takura’s new artistic identity, has had a non-stop year when it comes to releases, with 2 albums, an EP, and several singles all coming from the artist in 2025. The singer’s releases have a combination of Afro pop and Afro R&B. Sane Wav in contrast has been trailblazing the Zimbabwean hip hop scene, and he has 8 nominations to his name for the 2025 Zim Hip Hop Awards.
“HMU” is now streaming across all platforms.
