The I Wear My Culture ZW program is bringing together a Fashion Weekend across Harare and Bulawayo, to celebrate it’s latest collection.

Set for 28 – 30 August, the cultural celebration will kick off with an exclusive fashion mixer at the British Council in Harare, and then panel discussions and a fashion gala in Bulawayo.

The fashion and cultural preservation initiative was launched three years ago as a way of honouring Zimbabwe’s different ethnic groups.

Guided by Gilmore Tee, and supported by the British Council, I Wear My Culture ZW’s output so far includes culturally representative designs that have the potential of redefining Zimbabwean wear and an award winning documentary that has been screened across the globe.

I Wear My Culture ZW’s Fashion Weekend will bring together fashion practitioners, cultural experts, policy-makers, creatives and other stakeholders of the sector.

16 collections created over 5 months will be showcased at the fashion gala, celebrating Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage.

Designers for this year’s collection include Charmaine Nziradzemhuka (Nambya), Penelope Lacha (Ndau), Brightman Dlamini (Khoisan), Mbongisani Dube (Tonga), Ray Enders (Chewa), Ropafadzo Mapira (Ndebele), Ncominkosi Sibanda (Venda), Kundai Mangena (Kalanga), Nonhlanhla Ncube (Shona), Nkululeko Ncube (Xhosa), Leeroy Mapungwana (Sena), Langa Ndlovu (Shona), Tadiwa Karidza (Shangani), and Noliwe Mhlope (Sotho).

The Fashion Gala will be hosted at the Natural History Museum in Bulawayo, and tickets are currently on sale for $10. The fashion weekend’s panel discussions are free to attend.
