Netflix‘s recently revealed the first new actors for the upcoming second season of its live-action “One Piece” TV series. The show has added the comic book adaptation’s versions of four villains: Mr. 3, Mr. 5, Mr. 9 and Miss Valentine.

Playing the character of Mr. 9 will be Zimbabwean actor Daniel Lasker. He joins the cast together with Camrus Johnson (Mr. 5), Jazzara Jaslyn (Miss Valentine) and David Dastmalchian (Mr. 3).

In a social media post Lasker expressed how honoured he was to be joining the cast, and he shared how much love he has for the Eiichiro Oda created manga world.

There’s no words to express how honoured, and thrilled I am to join the magnificent cast of One Piece. I adore the world that Oda-san created and to now step into it as a character is a real dream come true. Thank you @onepiecenetflix. Next stop, the Grand Line!

The four villain characters are pulled directly from the pirate adventure manga “One Piece,” created by Eiichiro Oda, and its subsequent long-running anime TV series adaptation, where they are key members of the criminal syndicate Baroque Works. “One Piece” season 1 was launched in August 2023, on Netflix to solid streaming viewership and critical praise.

Daniel Lasker directed Zimbabwe’s First Ever Ndebele Sci-Fi Short Film and as an Actor he is known for “Raised By Wolves”, on HBO Max, Noughts & Crosses on BBC One, “Vagrant Queen” on SYFY and “Abraham Lincoln” on History Channel.

Although primarily an Actor, Daniel is fiercely passionate about telling stories, either from in front of or from behind the lens.
