From getting features from Taz (Afrika Revenge), Amai Shingisai Suluma, Sam Mtukudzi, Alexio Kawara, working with DJ Tamuka, releasing Lujulile to considerable acclamation, to gaining airtime on Trace Gospel, reinvented gospel diva Rose Mambo has amassed a bevy of successes since she debuted on the music scene.
Now back in the lab to create some more pious magic, the vessel of praise is ready to drop her new single “Ezintabeni” which will be accompanied by a video.
Speaking to Hallelujah Magazine, the “Kufamba naJesu” maker said the new DJ Tamuka-produced instalment is about hope and encouragement to the Way.
“Ezintabeni in Shona means kumakomo. The song is derived from Psalm 121, which encourages us to look up to the mountains and to look up to God for our help. It’s basically a song of hope to say no matter what we go through, our help comes from the Lord. I wrote the song with the help of Victor Stot and has a house feel to it. I tried the house feel on Lujulile last year and the reception was perfect hence I wouldn’t mind pursuing that kind of wave. A good friend of mine and a now frequent collaborator, Emelda Tshuma helped me with the backing vocals and Shamex was on the guitar,” she said.
Rose said she met Dj Tamuka at JP Studio and the synergy has been perfect.
“This is my third single with DJ Tamuka. The first was the Afropop-esque Handitenderedzeke, and we also worked together on Lujulile (Deepest Love), featuring Emelda. The song did extremely well: it dominated some local charts and subsequently found its way to Trace Gospel. Recently, it has been nominated for the Star FM Listeners Choice Awards under the Best House/amapiano category,” said the singer.
Quite buoyant about her nomination, Rose said it felt good to be one of this generation’s fast becoming recognizable voice despite the halts presented by the Covid-19 pandemic to the creative sector.
“The year 2020 was a difficult year for the arts industry. COVID-19 affected most artistes in so many ways, including music production, creation of visuals and shows. And yet, by the grace of God, I somehow improved my visibility in the music industry. I released two singles Lujulile (Deepest Love) and uManqoba featuring Taz.
I also recorded Ezintabeni towards the end of the year. I had enough time to introspect regarding how I wanted to grow my brand and the genre that I felt so comfortable in. I am a fan of house music, hence I gave it a try. I did not allow the challenges posed by the pandemic to destroy the vision I had and to slow me down to create. I am so excited that Star FM recognized the zeal and the hard work I put in in 2020 despite the obstacles. I am grateful for the recognition.”
Showering from the year 1978, Rose Mambo grew up in Bulawayo. Her musical career would then kickoff in 2003 when she debuted her inaugural body of work “Kufamba naJesu” which was produced by Misheck Mahendere and Jabulani Ndhlovu.
In 2007, she released her sophomore “Mazuva” with features from Sam Mtukudzi and Patience Musa.
In 2016, she released a single called Kuita Kwake featuring Alexio Kawara. The song appeared on her 2017 album “Haashanduke”.
Some of her features include Amai Shingisai Suluma’s “NaMwari”, and a forthcoming joint with Mathias Mhere entitled “Mufaro”.
