Zoe Ramushu continues reaching for new heights.
African filmmaking agency Realness Institute this year selected 15 participants for its second Creative Producer Indaba. A lab for developing entrepreneurial, leadership and creative skills among producers looking to work on the continent. The scheme is presented in partnership with European training body EAVE, International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR)’s industry platform IFFR Pro, and Marrakech International Film Festival’s Atlas Workshops.
Selected as a participant this year is Zimbabwean filmmaker Zoe Ramushu. The producer & director who has been nominated for the Student Academy Awards (Oscars) and the Student BAFTAs. She expressed feeling extremely proud of the recognition and it’s one more honour on her extremely promising film career.
The 2022 lab started with online classes from November 14-17 as part of the Atlas Workshops; then in person classes will be at IFFR in January and February 2023. Its programme includes workshops, discussions, case studies and one-on-one meetings. These will have mentorship focused on the development of projects.
Support for the scheme comes from the International Emerging Film Talent Association, Brazilian film support body Projeto Paradiso, and Switzerland-based philanthropic organisation The Storyboard Collective. The organisers commented on how successful the lab was last year and they see these projects as platforms to uplift filmmakers.
These producers represent a diverse range of voices and interests with solid or growing networks from Africa and beyond. Following our highly successful CPI last year we have seen how these intense programmes can provide opportunities for filmmakers to move forward with their ideas and projects.
Zoe Ramushu has produced and directed It Takes A Circus which was nominated for the Student Academy Awards 2021. She was also a producer on “To The Plate” which was shortlisted for the Student BAFTA Awards.
More recently, she worked on a documentary called David and also Bothlale/Intelligent. Intelligent had it’s US premier at the New York African Film Festival. Aheld at the Lincoln center on the 14th of May 2022. She is currently producing two feature films this year. One for MNET, the other for Netflix.
